Messages to Providers
If you need to speak with the nurse or the physician, a message should be left on extension 112 or option 6 from our automated attendant. You will need to provide the patient′s name, age, weight, drug allergies, pharmacy information, temperature, phone number where you can be reached and a brief summary of your child′s symptoms. Calls in the morning will be returned by noon. Afternoon calls will be returned by 4 p.m. If the physician feels your child needs to be seen, you will be directed to make an appointment. Appointments may be the same day or within 24 hours.
Prescription and Refills
Please call for prescriptions and refills during office hours. Leave a message on extension 104 or listen for the prompts from our automated phone attendant. (See above “Messages” for information required for leaving a message.) All controlled substances (medications for ADD/ADHD), are prescribed using a written prescription and require 24 hours for processing. These prescriptions legally require the prescription to be picked up from the office. It cannot be called into the pharmacy. The parent/guardian of the patient must show identification before picking up the prescription. No routine medications will be filled after hours.
Test and Lab Results
As a general rule, we will contact you with your lab values, no matter the result. Cultures take at least 24-48 hours before results are ready.) When labs are ordered, please be aware you may receive a separate bill from the lab that performs the test.
If your child is scheduled for a complete physical, plan on spending some time with us. Insurance companies, routinely, pay for one physical every 365 days over the age of two (2). Please understand that if a physical is performed in less than 365 days, you may receive a bill for those charges. A shot record is required to be on file prior to the physical.
Emergencies should go straight to the emergency room!
If it is determined your child needs to be seen, an appointment will be given within 24 hours of your call, with most seen the same day. Please try to call first thing in the morning to increase the likelihood of a same-day appointment. If you walk in, our staff will quickly triage your child to determine the urgency of their condition. Non-urgent patients may be asked to return the following day should no same-day appointments be available. If we are able to accommodate a same-day appointment, we will first see our scheduled patients then onto to any work-ins. Scheduled appointments will always have priority, barring any emergency.
Three missed/cancelled in a row will be an automatic dismissal from the practice, as it is unfair to those patients waiting for appointments. Patients who arrive more than 15 minutes late for their schedule appointment will be rescheduled. No-Shows will be charge $25 per no-show.
Dr. Appel holds true to the value of family. To accommodate this principle, she has provided her employees with a shorter work schedule to allow more time spent with their families.
